Cytotam 20mg contains Tamoxifen Citrate as the active ingredient. This drug has been used in the treatment of breast cancer for almost 20 years. It is used to treat patients with both early and advance stages of this disease. The medication primarily interferes with estrogen activity and the way that it affects the breast tissue. Recently, it has also been found useful as additional treatment after a patient has finished their primary treatment for breast cancer.
The drug belongs to a group of medicines which are called anti-estrogen hormone antagonists. It could be used as a standalone treatment, or in conjunction with surgery, chemotherapy or radiation to treat metastatic breast cancer. In some cases, it is also used as a medication to lower the risk of breast cancer in women who already have a family history of the disease.
Dosage and Administration
Cytotam 20 mg is always taken under medical supervision. The doses vary from a single one per day up to 2 times daily and the treatment can extent up to 5 years. The actual dosage and duration of the course depends on your condition, and how well you respond to the drug.
The tablet is to be swallowed with some water and it is highly recommended that the tablet is had whole instead of splitting, crushing or chewing it. The time of the medication should be the same everyday; although the actual time that you take it does not matter. While the medication does not need to be taken with food, some women actually prefer to do so because it may cause you to feel nauseous and it leaves a metallic aftertaste in your mouth.
