Modalert 100mg is available in tablet form whose active component is Modafinil and is available for patients suffering from various forms of sleep disorders i.e., narcolepsy and daytime sleep disorders. It has been shown to improve narcolepsy symptoms, short-term memory loss as well as reduce incidences of sleep attacks. It has been shown to increase and/or improve concentration, working memory, learning capacity, alertness, mental performance, energy levels, improved attention span and concentrated focus in some users.
Dosage and Administration
Modalert 100mg tablet is ingested whole along with water in the morning, as directed by your doctor. The normally range of dosages may vary from 100 to 400 mg per day.
The typical adult dosage is usually 200 mg taken once in the morning, but again, based on your doctor’s prescription; it can be taken in split doses of 100 mg in the morning and afternoon. A single dose is strong enough to last a day.
Modafinil (Modafinil) has been shown to have some side effects but it differs from person to person. The most common ones are listed as under:
- shortness of breath
- swelling in the mouth, face or throat
- blurred vision
Rare side effects experienced by patients include:
- loss of sex drive
- blurry vision
- abnormal periods
- dry mouth
- unusual tiredness
- dizziness and vertigo
- speech problems
- indigestion, diarrhea, constipation
Modalert 100mg (Modafinil) is not advised for patients who have an irregular heartbeat, or moderate/severe or uncontrolled hypertension. Further, you should not take this medication if you have had anxiety issues, depression, mania or psychosis.
Prior to starting a course of this medication, it is advisable to inform your physician if you:
- are breastfeeding
- are lactose intolerant
- are currently pregnant
- trying to get pregnant
- are currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI)
- have had a heart attack or acute myocardial infarction
- have chest pain
- have liver or kidney problems
- have a history of substance or alcohol abuse
It is important to note that certain patients have reported showing aggressive behavior or suicidal thoughts while on this medication. Further, it can lead to dependency issues if used for long.
Drug Interactions with Modalert 100mg:
Certain drugs have been known to interact with this medication such as:
- Birth control medications or contraceptives
- Ritonavir or indinavir (HIV medications)
- Phenobarbital, phenytoin or carbamazepine (epilepsy medications)
- Citalopram, Amitriptyline or Fluoxetine (for treatment of OCD symptoms or anxiety)
Calcium channel blockers such as Verapamil and Amlodipine
