Cleocin T Topical Solution – 1% (Clindamycin) is a topical ointment/cream which contains the active ingredient Clindamycin which is a lincomycin-type of antibiotic. It is used mainly to treat patients who cannot tolerate or are allergic to penicillin. It works by retarding growth of bacteria in patients suffering from skin problems like acne and helps to reduce the visible skin lesions left behind as well as reduce inflammation.
Dosage and Administration
Cleocin T Topical Solution – 1% (Clindamycin) is applied topically to the affected areas of the skin once or twice per day or as directed by your physician. The treating physician decides on the frequency and period of treatment. It takes around 6 to 12 weeks of treatment to see any improvement. The length of treatment varies from patient to patient depending on the severity of the infection and response to this medication. The gel is spread in a thin layer over the affected area of the skin and has to be rubbed in. Before application, the skin has to be cleaned and dry and it is advisable to wash your hands after using this antibiotic.
Some of the more common adverse side effects noted when using Cleocin T Topical Solution – 1% (Clindamycin) may include:
- burning sensation at the applied site
- skin redness
- oily skin
- skin flaking
- gastrointestinal problems
- new pimples
If these conditions worsen, it is advisable to stop using the cream and see your doctor.
Other serious side effects which may require emergency medical attention include:
- severe and bloody diarrhea
- stomach cramping
- allergic reaction
- shortness of breath
Cleocin T Topical Solution is used externally only and should not be applied to broken skin or around eyes, nose, and mouth. The dosage should not be changed unless your physician specifically instructs you to do so.
