Pacifen 10mg (baclofen) helps to decrease the severity of muscle spasms that occur with spinal cord diseases or with multiple sclerosis. This medication relaxes the muscles and helps the muscle to move easier and thus reduces pain. It is also quite effective in the treatment of cerebral palsy, meningitis, motor neuron disease, and other disorders of the central nervous system. It helps to decrease clonus or involuntary and spontaneous muscle contraction and thus helps patients to have improved sleep and a better quality of life.

Dosage and Administration

Pacifen 10mg (baclofen) is taken orally under the direction of a physician. It is taken with a glass of water with or without food. The length of the treatment depends upon the severity of the ailment and the response to the medication. A double dose should be avoided at all costs.

Side effects

The most common side effects associated with Pacifen 10mg are:

  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Nausea
  • Respiratory depression
  • Lightheadedness
  • Exhaustion
  • Constipation
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

Less common side effects you may experience include:

  • Chest pain
  • Hallucinations
  • Skin rash
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Nightmares
  • Abdominal pain
  • Difficulty urination.


Pacifen 10mg should be tapered off gradually under a doctor’s guidance and not stopped abruptly. This is to prevent the occurrence of withdrawal symptoms with hallucinations and seizures. The patient should proceed to the emergency room immediately in the event of an allergic reaction to this medication. Pregnant or lactating mothers, patients who use herbal supplements, or have other allergies should inform the doctor before starting this medication. Pacifen 10mg can impair your reactions and so job duties that require driving heavy duty vehicles and work that needs alertness should be avoided. Drinking alcohol is not advised when using this medication.

Before taking Pacifen 10mg, you should advise your doctor if you have:

  • Heart disease, liver disease or kidney disease
  • Respiratory disease and lung problems
  • Had a stroke or blood clots
  • Stomach ulcers
  • Mental illness or epilepsy.

Drug Interactions with baclofen

  • Drugs that act on the central nervous system such as opiates, pain relieving drugs, alcohol, trycyclic antidepressants, and antihypertensives may have interactions with baclofen.
  • Levadopa used for Parkinson’s disease may also interact with baclofen.
