Kenalog in Orabase is very effective in relieving pain, ulceration, tenderness and inflammation inside the mouth and the gums. This condition can happen because of an injury or the use of dentures. Triamcinolone Acetonide, the active ingredient is a kind of corticosteroids which relieves burning, allergies, and itching. It sticks to the wound and protects it and heals it.

Dosage And Administration

A small amount of Kenalog in Orabase has to be pressed on the area that needs to be treated and you could also use a cotton swab to help apply. Do not rub it but instead press it down till it sticks and a slippery and smooth film develops. The amount used depends on the size of the wound.

Your dentist or doctor may prescribe Triamcinolone acetonide for a few days and you will be required to apply it at least thrice a day. It is best to use it after meals and at bedtime. It should not be swallowed or applied near the eyes.

Side Effects

The side effects of Kenalog in Orabase are quite rare but there are a few that could be caused. Some of them are:

  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • New sores or sensitivity inside the mouth
  • The worsening of the sores
  • Itching, redness, burning or dryness  of the treated area

If Triamcinolone acetonide is used over a long period of time there is the possibility of certain adverse side effects like:

  • Protein catabolism
  • Alteration of glucose metabolism
  • Peptic ulcer activations
  • Adrenal suppression
  • Peeling or blistering
