Augmentin (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid) is available in two dosages, 125mg and 500mg and is usually taken orally three times a day or as directed by your doctor. This drug works by fighting and killing off bacteria in the body and is usually prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, skin infections and urinary tract infections. It does not work on viral infections such as cold and flu.
Dosage and Administration
Augmentin-500mg /125mg should be taken along with some food and with a glass of water. It should be swallowed whole and should not be split, chewed or broken before consumption. Appropriate dosages for patients will be as directed by their physician and will depend on their individual condition, length of treatment, and response to the therapy. Treatment response is better if taken at even intervals and patients are advised to complete the full course of Augmentin as prescribed by the doctor, even if their symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the drug early may allow the bacteria to take hold and can lead to a relapse.
