Active Ingredient

Marketed Name

Duprost 0.5mg is a drug that contains Dutasteride as the active ingredient. This drug is usually prescribed to male patients suffering from an enlarged prostrate. This condition is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It helps relieve the symptoms associated with BPH, such as frequent urination, acute urine retention and weak stream, by reducing the enlarged prostrate.

Duprost 0.5mg belongs to the group of drugs known as 5 alpha reductase inhibitors and it prevents testosterone from being converted into dihydro-testosterone in the prostrate. Doctors prescribe it as a standalone drug or as a combination with other medication. The drug could also reduce the need for prostate surgery. There are also medical studies that indicate that this drug could be used to treat alopecia or male pattern baldness.

Dosage and Administration

Duprost 0.5mg is to be taken only under medical supervision. The recommended dosage is 1 tablet / day. However the dose may vary depending on what your doctor feels is necessary.

The medicine is meant to be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, split or dissolve the medication. It can be take with or without food. It is recommended that you check with your doctor before you stop the medication as it usually takes between 3 to 6 months to be effective.
