Ginette-35 - 2mg/0.035mg (Cyproterone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol) contains the active ingredients cyproterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol which is used to treat women suffering from an overproduction of the hormone, androgen, which results in conditions such as unwanted hair growth or severe hair loss. Invariably, this condition is accompanied by severe cases of skin problems such as acne, greasy and oily skin, and inflammation. Another property of this drug is that it can also be used as an oral contraceptive pill, but it is not recommended to be used solely as an effective contraceptive.

Dosage and Administration

Ginette-35 - 2mg/0.035mg (Cyproterone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol) is classified as an anti-androgen estrogen type of medication which is available in packets of 21 tablets. When used as a contraceptive, the pill is swallowed whole once daily, preferably at the same time, with a glass of water, though it can be taken with or without food. The patient is advised to take one tablet per day for 21 days with 7 days off, during the menstrual period. It will need a month’s use of this medication to avail of the contraceptive properties.

Side Effects

Ginette-35 -2mg/0.035mg (Cyproterone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol) has been known to cause some mild side effects, the most common ones being:

  • breast pain and tenderness
  • headache
  • cough
  • nausea and vomiting
  • abdominal pain
  • skin rash


Other serious side effects which may require emergency medical treatment include:

  • mood swings
  • depression
  • abnormal menstrual bleeding
  • decreased sex libido
  • fluctuating body weight
  • shortness of breath
  • allergic reactions



Ginette-35 is not indicated for patients with a history of cardiovascular, diabetes, renal problems, breast cancer, hypertension or deep venous thrombosis.

Prior to beginning a course of this medication, your doctor should be informed if you:

  • are pregnant or trying to conceive
  • are breastfeeding
  • are allergic to the ingredients of this medication
  • are using other medications
  • are using vitamins, herbal supplements or minerals
  • are using another contraceptive product
