Glyciphage 500mg tablets are used to control blood sugar levels. It is prescribed for people who suffer from Type 2 diabetes and are unable to get the sugar levels under control with diet and exercise. It is given to newly diagnosed patients and those for whom no other medication works. Metformin is also given to people who have Type 1 diabetes, which is an insulin dependent diabetes. In the case of Type 1 diabetes, it is given along with insulin because in some cases insulin alone is not sufficient to control sugar levels.

Dosage And Administration

Glyciphage 500mg tablets should be taken only when prescribed by a physician. It can be taken once, twice or even thrice every day. To prevent any stomach problems, you are advised to take it just after a meal with a glass of water. Your blood sugar levels have to be checked regularly to see how effective the medication is and the doctor will adjust the dosage accordingly. Metformin tablets have to be taken for a long period of time.

Side Effects

Glyciphage 500mg does have some side effects such as the ones listed below:

Drug Interactions with Metformin
