Active Ingredient

Marketed Name

Cerecetam 400 mg tablets contain Piracetam as the active ingredient. This drug is prescribed to patients who suffer from jerking and twitching as a result of an illness called Myoclonus. It controls these involuntary movements by improving the oxygen supply to the brain and by altering the amount of neurochemicals that are supplied to it. This drug is also referred to as a nootropic – which is a kind of medication that improves cognitive skills like concentration and memory. It also appears to slow brain ageing and can aid in recovery from a stroke. The drug is also used as a psychoactive stimulant and can be beneficial to patients who suffer from Down’s syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, dyslexia and dementia.

Dosage and Administration

Cerecetam 400 mg is swallowed whole with a glass of water and is generally taken before a meal. Dosage for this drug is determined by your doctor based on your illness and the seriousness of your symptoms. It also depends on the patient’s response to the therapy. It is very important that this medication is only taken under the supervision of a doctor.

The adult dosage for Cerecetam 400 mg when used to treat cortical Myoclonus, is generally divided into 2 -3 times a day, beginning with 7.2 g daily, which can be increased every 3 – 4 days by 4.8 g / day. The maximum dosage is 20 g per day. As a cognitive enhancer, the adult dosage is 2.4 g daily, divided into 2 – 3 doses. No more than 4.8 g / day is used for cases like this.
