S Citadep 10mg (Escitalopram Oxalate) treats major depressive disorders and symptoms associated with depression. It is also used to treat generalized anxiety disorder. Escitalopram Oxalate belongs to the group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). These drugs are known to treat major depressive disorders and related symptoms by acting on the central nervous system. The drug works by altering the chemical balance in the brain, i.e. by increasing the serotonin concentration. This increase relieves depression symptoms like decreased energy levels, mood swings and loss of appetite etc.


Dosage and Administration

S Citadep 10mg is prescribed to patients depending on the seriousness of their condition. The dosage for an adult can vary between 10 mg to 20 mg a day. The tablet is to be swallowed whole along with a glass of water and is either taken in the morning or at bed time – according to the physician’s advice. The dose of a patient who is on 10 mg/day can be increased to 20 mg/day, after 3 weeks, if the doctor feels the need to do so. Do not take a higher dose than what has been prescribed for you.

Side effects

S Citadep 10mg has side effects that are similar to most antidepressants and while most of them are not serious, you must report them to your physician to be sure that there is nothing to worry about. Side effects to watch out for are:

  • Feeling of tiredness
  • Delay in ejaculation
  • Changes in your libido
  • Symptoms of a cold or a nasal feeling
  • Unusual amount of perspiration

If you feel that any of these symptoms are aggravated and appear more intense than they should, or you experience chest tightening, swelling, difficulty in breathing, skin rash or hives, you need to contact your doctor immediately.


S Citadep 10mg should be taken under medical supervision only and the dosage should not be altered unless advised by your physician. Before beginning your course of this medication, you need to inform your physician of:

  • Any medical history, current medical condition that you may have or medication that you are taking
  • Any upcoming surgery that you may need to undergo – including dental surgery
  • Any vitamins or supplements that you may be taking at this moment

S Citadep, like most antidepressants is unsafe for pregnant women and nursing mothers. It is also advisable to inform your doctor if you are trying to conceive.


Drug interactions with Escitalopram Oxalate


Drugs that cause serious reactions if taken together with this medication are antidepressants like monoamine oxidase inhibitors and warfarin that affects the clotting of the blood. Analgesics, mood alteration drugs, migraine medication and weight reduction medication all interfere with effect of the drug in the system. Other drugs to stay away from while taking this medication are:

  • Pimozide (antipsychotic)
  • Clozapine (schizophrenia)
  • Phenytoin (epilepsy)
  • Diazepam (sedative)
  • Tolbutamide (diabetes)
  • Methadone (drug addiction)
  • Bupropion (Nicotine addiction)
