Mirtaz 30mg is used in the treatment of major depressive disorders.  It does this by restoring the balance of neurotransmitters or natural chemicals in the brain thus improving mood and feeling of wellbeing.

Dosage and Administration

Mirtaz 30mg is to be taken with or without food orally under the direction of a medical practitioner.  It should not be chewed or broken.  The dosages may vary according to the severity of your illness and your response to the medication.  The effects of the medicine will take about 4 weeks to manifest but in the meanwhile you are not to miss any doses.  It should also be taken at the same time every day.  You are not to stop taking the medicine or alter its dosage even if you are feeling good.

Side effects

The most common side effects associated with Mirtaz 30mg are:

  • Increase in appetite and weight gain
  • Dry mouth
  • Sleepiness
  • Headache
  • Tremor
  • Lethargy
  • Arthralgia or pain in the joints

Less common side effects you may experience include:

  • Restless legs
  • Syncope or fainting
  • Abnormal sensation in the skin
  • Oral numbness
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling aggressive
  • Muscle twitching


Mirtaz 30mg should not be taken in conjunction with tryptophan or MAO inhibitor.  Persons with suicidal tendencies should be monitored when first taking mirtazapine until they stabilize on the dose.  It is not approved for children under 18 years old.  It may impair you reaction time as well as your thinking.  It should not be taken by anyone who is allergic to any of the components of mirtazapine.

Before taking Mirtaz 30mg you should advise your doctor if you have:

  • Taken an MAO inhibitor within 14 days of using mirtazapine
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding your baby
  • Seizure or epilepsy
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Heart disease

Drug Interactions with Mirtaz 30mg:

  • There could be a dangerous interaction if taken with MAO inhibitors or even within 14 days from using a MAO inhibitor.
  • It is not advised to use mirtazapine in conjunction with other antidepressants like venlafaxine, triptans, or SSRIs.

Other drugs like benzodiazepines, allergy medicines, medicines for epilepsy and such could interact with mirtazapine, so it is always better to keep your doctor informed about the other drugs you are on.
